How to Reset Your Life in 30 Days: A Week-by-Week Plan

Sometimes you look up and realise things have drifted. Your sleep is all over the place, your room is a mess, you're behind on things you care about and you're not quite sure how you got here. You want a fresh start, but you don't know where to begin.

You can't change your whole life in a month. But you can reset the foundations: your space, your body's basics, your daily rhythm and your direction. This plan breaks the next 30 days into four weeks with one focus each, plus two final days to lock it in. Each day asks for roughly 20–45 minutes.

Before you start: Day 0

Take 20 minutes to get honest about where you are. On a page, score each area of your life from 1 to 10:

  • Sleep and energy
  • Home and surroundings
  • Money and admin
  • Health and movement
  • Work or study
  • Relationships
  • Fun and rest

Don't try to fix everything. Circle the two lowest scores. Those are where you'll feel the biggest change. Keep this page; you'll score yourself again on Day 30.

Week 1 (Days 1–7): Clear the decks

Mess and unfinished tasks quietly drain energy. This week is about clearing space, physically and mentally.

  • Day 1: Write a full brain dump of everything on your mind, from "book dentist" to "change career". Just get it out.
  • Day 2: Sort the list: do now, schedule, delegate, or delete. Deleting is allowed.
  • Day 3: Clear your bedroom. Clothes away, surfaces clear, bin bag for rubbish.
  • Day 4: Clear your main workspace (desk, bag, kitchen table).
  • Day 5: Admin hour: open post, reply to the three messages you've been avoiding, check subscriptions.
  • Day 6: Tidy your digital space: clear your phone's home screen, unfollow accounts that make you feel worse.
  • Day 7: Rest and review. What felt good to finish?

Try this today: the 20-minute clear-out

Set a timer for 20 minutes and clear one surface completely, whether that's your bedside table, desk or kitchen worktop. Stop when the timer goes. Look at it before bed. That small clear space is proof the reset has started.

Week 2 (Days 8–14): Fix the basics

Almost everything feels harder when you're tired, dehydrated and stuck indoors. This week is about the unglamorous foundations.

  • Sleep: choose a fixed wake-up time and stick to it every day this week, weekends included. Bedtime will start to follow. The Wake Up Refreshed Prime Protocol can help.
  • Water: a glass when you wake, and one with every meal.
  • Movement: a daily walk, even 10 minutes. Daylight in the morning is a bonus.
  • Food: don't diet. Just aim for regular meals, so you're not running on snacks.

Track these four with a simple tick each day. You're not aiming for perfect; aim for five out of seven.

Week 3 (Days 15–21): Build your rhythm

Now that the basics are steadier, give your days a shape. You need two simple bookends: a short start-of-day routine and a short end-of-day routine.

  • Morning (10–20 minutes): water, get dressed properly, look at today's plan. Keep your phone out of it for the first part if you can.
  • Evening (10–20 minutes): quick tidy, write tomorrow's top three, phone on charge away from the bed.

Use the same order every day. By the end of the week you'll notice that you start and finish days more deliberately. For more detail, the Productive Evening Prime Protocol is a good companion for this week.

Also add one weekly planning session this week (Sunday is popular), even just 15 minutes with your calendar.

Week 4 (Days 22–28): Choose your direction

With a clearer space and steadier days, you're in a better place to think about where you're going.

  1. Day 22: Look at your two lowest scores from Day 0. For each, write what a 7 out of 10 would look like in practical terms.
  2. Day 23: Pick one goal for the next three months. Just one.
  3. Day 24: Break it into the first three small steps.
  4. Day 25: Do step one. Keep it under 30 minutes.
  5. Day 26: Decide when this goal lives in your week: which days, which times.
  6. Day 27: Tell someone about it, or write it somewhere you'll see daily.
  7. Day 28: Do step two.

Days 29–30: Review and lock it in

Day 29: Look back over the month. Which habits stuck without much effort? Which fell away? Keep the ones that helped, and let the rest go without guilt.

Day 30: Redo your Day 0 scores. Notice what's moved, even by one point. Then write your "keep list": the three to five small habits you're taking into next month. That list is your new normal.

Rules that make the reset work

  • One focus per week. Stacking everything into week one is why most "new me" plans collapse.
  • Small beats big. A 10-minute walk you do beats an hour at the gym you don't.
  • Missed a day? Just carry on. Don't restart from Day 1. Pick up where you are.
  • Write things down. Seeing your progress on paper is motivating on days when it doesn't feel like much is changing.

What a reset can't do

A 30-day reset is great for routines, clutter and direction. It won't fix everything, and it's not meant to replace support if things feel heavy. If you're struggling with how you feel, reaching out is a strong step, not a weak one.
